Ghent University was founded in 1817 and is currently one of the major universities in the Dutch-speaking region of Europe. It distinguishes itself as a socially committed and pluralistic university in a broad international perspective. Over 130 departments, spread over 11 faculties, offer high-quality courses in every one of their scientific disciplines to in total 32000 students. The university holds at present over 4500 researchers and has a leading international position in research and Sciences.
The Faculty of Bio-Science Engineering counts 14 departments. Researchers from three departments of the faculty and also from the Center of Excellence Food2Kow are involved in the Veg-i-Trade project .
