The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science is the only establishment in Norway training veterinarians. As well as being an educational establishment it has a strong research commitment, and has as its major goal to be among the foremost research and educational establishments in veterinary medicine in Europe. The five core subject fields of NVH are: 1) food safety and environment; 2) veterinary medicine in livestock; 3) veterinary medicine in sports animals and pets; 4) aquamedicine; 5)basic veterinary medicine.
Within the research strategy of NVH, emphasis is placed upon research on infectious diseases, particularly infection routes and host-pathogen interactions. Zoonotic infections of importance to human health and those which might be transmitted by food/water are also of importance within the NVH research strategy.
