The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) is a private, non-profit research foundation with a staff of 200. NIVA conducts interdisciplinary research in the natural sciences, engineering and social sciences and is the largest water research centre in Norway. Projects include topics on freshwater and marine waters such as effects of acid rain, climate change, water and wastewater treatment technology, water resources management. NIVA has a broad international engagement, both within European research and in projects in other parts of the world. Relevant EU research projects include EUROHARP (lead), BMW, REBECCA, STRIVER, EUROLIMPACS, INTERRISK, INNOWATECH.
